Belarus was together with Russia and Ukraine one of the Soviet Union's republics. On September 19, 1991 Belarus declared its independence. The capital of Belarus is Minsk. In Minsk it is possible to visit the KGB building. Belarus has no access to sea and is bordered by Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania and Latvia. The country has swamps and is for 8% hilly: Belaruskya Grada. The highest point is the top of the hill Dzjarzhinskaja with 346 meters. Belarus has major rivers such as the Dnepr, Dvina en Pripyat.
