Travel information about vacation/holiday in Cyprus
Cyprus is an island in the Mediterranean Sea at about 70 km south of Turkey and about 100 km west of Syria. Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Cyprus is a republic. Nicosia (Lefkosia) is the capital of Cyprus. From 1974 in the north of the island exists the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (this part is only recognized by Turkey). It is believed that the goddess Aphrodite was born on Cyprus. She is the Greek goddess of fertility, love and physical beauty. Cyprus is a popular holiday destination because of its beautiful beaches and the various attractions. Especially the Troodos Mountains is worth a visit. Other sights on Cyprus are: the Archeological museum in Pafos, Kourion ancient theater at Limassol, the Tombs of the Kings necropolis in Pafos, the mosaic from the 2nd century in Paphos and amathus (remains of the kingdom between Larnaka and Limassol). Eating on Cyprus has a lot of Greek influences, but called often different. Typical dishes are meze (a kind of tapas), afelia, tava and kleftiko. The Cypriot wine is recommended together with the Cypriot Keo beer.
The easy and low cost way of travelling. Hostels do not only provide sleeping but new friendships as well. Hostels, also called youth hostels, provide short-term accommodation to travellers or backpackers, particularly encouraging outdoor activities and cultural exchange for the young. Hostels are also often called backpackers' hostels (or backpackers' for short), particularly in Australia and New Zealand. In a hostel guests often rent a bed (sometimes a bunk bed) in a dormitory and share common bathroom, kitchen, and lounge rooms. Private rooms are often available. The main benefits of a hostel are firstly the low cost of the accommodation compared to alternatives such as hotels, and that one gets to meet other travellers from all over the world. Hostels are usually less formal and less expensive than hotels. They are most frequently used by young travellers. In the past many hostels imposed age limits, but today it is more common for hostels to accept guests of all ages. Despite the openness of modern hostels, the majority of guests are traditionally and overwhelmingly between the ages of 18 and 26.
