The Republic of Italy is located in southern Europe and belongs to the European Union. A second independent state within the borders of Italy is San Marino. Other major cities in Italy are Milan, Turin, Genoa, Venice, Bologna, Pescara, Verona, Naples and Palermo. In the Italian capital Rome the following places can be recommend: the Colosseum, Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain, the San Clemente Basilica, Vatican City (with the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter with frescoes by Michelangelo), Castel Sant'Angelo (the Castel Sant Angelo including the underground corridor to the Vatican), Pantheon church, Villa Borghese, Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps) and the National Pasta museum. Furthermore the Leaning Tower of Pisa is a famous landmark as well as the Dome and Galeria in Milan.
