Switzerland (direct democratic federal republic) is located in the Alps and bordered by neighbours Germany (also of Lake Bodensee), France, Austria and Liechtenstein. The official languages of Switzerland are German, French, Italian and Romansh. The country is also known by its Latin name Confœderatio Helvetica (CH). The capital Bern. Switzerland is popular with winter sports enthusiasts, hikers, climbers and other bergsporters. Sightseeing: the Bernese Oberland (with the Jungfrau mountains and the Eiger) with ski resort Interlaken, Ticino, Zurich, Graubünden, Schaffhausen (with the highest waterfall in Europe), Lake Geneva, Fribourg and the Jura (with known places such as Montreux and Gstaad). The city of Bern, the longest covered winkelarcade (over 6 miles) of Europe. In the canton of Zermatt is the famous Matterhorn mountain.
