Belgium lies in Western Europe alongside Germany, the Netherlands and France and adjacent to the North Sea. Brussels is the capital of Belgium and is also the centre for the European Union. Belgium is strongly divided (on various aspects, such as cultural, language, social) into Flanders (Dutch) and Walonie (French). In addition, there is a small German-speaking community in Belgium. The country is divided into 3 regions, Flanders, Walonië and the Brussels-Capital Region. Belgium is famous for its extensive selection of beer. Furthermore, the well-known Belgian frites (chips), the Flemish fries. The main tourist areas are the coast, the Ardennes, the Kempen and the artcities: Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent. In Brussels, especially Manneke pis (peeing statue) and the Atomium a well-known attraction. Belgium is particularly suitable for active holidays such as walking, cycling and survival in the Ardennes. But for lovers of nature, rest or gourmet stay Belgium is to be recommended.
