Portugal is the country in Europe that is positioned mostly western (in continental Europe). Portugal and Spain together form the Iberian Peninsula. The capital of Portugal is Lisbon. The Portuguese volcanic island of Madeira (also known as flower island), is located off the coast of Morocco. The Azores archipelago, consisting of 9 Islands (Sao Miguel, Corvo, Flores, Terceira, Graciosa, Sao Jorge, Pico, Faial and Santa Maria) in the Atlantic Ocean also belong to Portugal.
